Made by the Daisy Outdoor Products company in 1968, famed for their BB guns and pellet rifles, Daisy produced this unique rifle that utilizes compressed air to fire proprietary caseless ammunition. What Daisy did was take a .22 caliber lead projectile with a mixture of compressed and dried smokeless powder affixed to the rear of the projectile and used a rather highly advanced pneumatic piston called an Obturator that forced the air through a small hole where the temperature reaches nearly 2000 degrees Fahrenheit instantaneously and ignites the powder and sends the projectile through the barrel. In 1969, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF) determined that the Daisy Heddon V/L rifle was to be classified as a firearm. Due to the nature of the operating system; utilizing an ignited propellant to fire a projectile, the V/L rifle was and still is considered a firearm. Daisy decided to stop producing this rifle to be in compliance to Federal law, and only 23,000 of these rifles were produced between 1968 to 1969. This is truly a unique firearm and a fascinating piece of sporting arms history.
